RED SORROW is the poetic story of a coming of age in China. The book describes the humiliation and torture of the author’s parents at the hands of the Red Guards, the eleven-year-old author’s struggle for survival on the streets of Shanghai, her attempts to care for her younger brother, and the harsh reality of life for Communist teenagers in the Chinese countryside.

Nanchu has been the editor of the Denver Chinese News, an instructor at Aurora Community College and at the University of Georgia.
