PRAGUE: PORTRAIT OF A CITY
Edwards, Ivana
John Wiley & Sons (2000)
Since the "Velvet Revolution" dropped the curtain on more than 40 years of a drab and draconian dictatorship, Prague has re-emerged as a major stop on the traditional European "Grand Tour." Prague, the most Western in spirit, history and geography of the Eastern European capitals, suffered minimal damage in World War II and precious little "modernization" since. This book is the first on the city and its history since Joseph Wechsburg's Prague, the Mystical City was published 20 years ago. Born in Prague and raised in Canada, Ms. Edwards has an intimate knowledge of her birth city, to which she has made frequent and extended visits since 1964. She is a former journalist and editor at Lear's and has contributed free-lance articles for publications such as The Los Angeles Times Magazine, the New York Times Magazine, and World Monitor.
