MY RENAISSANCE: A Widow's Healing Pilgrimage to Tuscany
By Rose Marie Nelson
Capital Books (2002)

MY RENAISSANCE is the story of love, loss and rebirth. It takes the reader through a pilgrimage that begins with a passionate May-December romance and marriage, continues through the ordeal of care-giving and widowhood, and culminates with the sunny healing process in Tuscany.

Within a year of her marriage, Rose Marie Nelson’s husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Nelson poignantly tells us the story of their four-year struggle with this relentless killer and of her subsequent rebirth in Tuscany. She not only gives us a moving account of her ordeal, the anguish and heartache of loving an Alzheimer victim but also of her emotional healing and eventual re-enchantment with life.

Nelson has an M. A. in English from Seattle University. Prior to becoming primary caregiver for her husband, Nelson served as director for various organizations including the Fred Hutchenson Cancer Research Center and the Cornish College of the Arts.
