THE CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS: A Forensic Inquiry
By Dr. Frederick Zugibe
M. Evans (2005)

THE CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS: A Forensic Inquiry, fascinating and meticulously researched, is based on the author's thirty years of experimentation and scholarly research. Dr. Zugibe conducted personal examinations of the shroud, the linen cloth in which Christ's body was wrapped, as well as experiments using volunteers suspended on a scientifically accurate cross. This probing study incorporates the findings of the 1987 Second International Scientific Conference on the Shroud of Turin, new analyses that have emerged in recent years, and areas of controversy relating to Christ's death. Profusely illustrated and thoroughly documented, this book brings clarity and coherence to a chapter of history that has been, alternately, overlooked and misunderstood.

In this complete re-write of THE CROSS & THE SHROUD (Paragon 1986), the author has added a great amount of new information and photos including information about several new studies in favor of the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin, one of which concludes that the scientists who performed the original radio carbon dating unintentionally skewed the results. Fred's recent experiments, using highly sophisticated, programmable strain gauges on the hands, demonstrate that Christ's hands could have held the weight of the body, making the "sagging and raising" theory, as well as asphyxiation, impossible.
