McGraw Hill (NYP)
About 31 million adults in the U.S. suffer from severe headaches or migraines, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Two-third are females, and the majority are 18-44 years old. Yet many are misdiagnosed and they continue to suffer, which is why they need this 75,000-word book by two neurologists with extensive experience in successfully treating thousands of headache patients, especially those suffering from the often-ignored headaches that stems from problems in the upper (cervical) spine. These "cervicogenic headaches" truly are a "pain in the neck." Most patients with such headaches and there are millions of them are convinced that they really are suffering from migraines because of the intensity and frequency of their headaches. Often their doctors misdiagnose them. About 60 percent of the authors headache patients were previously misdiagnosed with migraines or other forms of headaches. When patients receive the proper diagnosis, its the first step toward receiving treatment that can provide them with real pain relief.
THE HEADACHE CURE: How To Uncover What's Really Causing Your Headache and Find Lasting Relief describes cervicogenic headaches, including what causes them (such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, disc inflammation, postural strain, trauma from a car crash or another injury), and how they can be treated, as well as the practical steps that patients can take to reduce the severity and frequency. The book addresses other forms of chronic and severe headaches, such as migraines, sinus headaches, cluster headaches, and combination headaches as well. The book discusses possible causes of headaches, as well as remedies, including medications, the latest treatments (including "Botox" injections), and lifestyle changes that patients can make.
Most existing headache books are either short on detailed information for lay readers or are too clinical for the average consumer. Some describe headaches in general or concentrate on specific types, such as migraines. No book on the market devotes more than a few paragraphs to cervicogenic headaches or to modern treatments such as Botox.
